With the lifting of many Covid restrictions registration for West London runs is no longer mandatory but is still encouraged as it gives the Hare an indicative pack size in advance to advise the pub and registration has been useful to the Hash Cash as an aid to keeping stats and collecting subs so if you plan to come on this run please register by clicking on This Link.

  • Run 1837 – Thursday 8th July ~ Northfields

    Hare – Ryde

Registration is required for all participants in West London runs during the current pandemic. If you plan to come on this run please register ASAP by using This link

This week’s run will start from The Forester, 2 Leighton Road, Ealing, London W13 9EP map link. The nearest station is Northfields Tube on the Piccadilly Line and there will be a trail of chalk P arrows from that station to help you find the pub. It will be a staggered start, runners should start between 18.45 and 19.00 hours, walkers can start any time after 18.30. Runners starting after 18.50 should mark through checks when they are called. The Pub will provide bag storage, speak to the staff about this if the Hare is not available. Please do not start any earlier than the above times as the Hare will be setting the trail alone and it would put her under undue pressure.

There will be drink stop on trail which will not be open before 19.30 hours and the Hare has booked tables for at least 24 Hashers in the public bar of the Foresters for after run drinks. Hashers who would prefer to drink in the open air are free to make their own arrangements with the pub to book a table in their Garden.

  • Run 1831 – Thursday 27th May ~ Teddington

    Hare – Dunny Penny

Registration is required for all participants in West London runs during the current pandemic. If you plan to come on this run please register ASAP by using This Link.

The trail will start from Teddington Lock, near The Anglers pub, Map Link and there will be a trail of chalk P arrows from Teddington station to guide you to the start point. Start on trail any time after 18.30 hours, the faster you run the later you should start. The trail will be 9 km long with shortcuts. Duration: 50 – 60 mins for runners and about the same for SCBs. There will be a drink stop on trail which will be open from 19:20 hours. The Hare has booked a large number of tables for us in the garden of the Anglers from 20:00 hours, this will be about 5 mins walk from the drink drink stop. Entry to the pub will be via top secret password to be revealed in confidence at the drink stop.

Tips from the Hare: The trail uses a small area, and is will be very tightly marked to take us through some great terrain. There will be few checks to keep you on the best bits of the area. FOLLOW THE TRAIL MARKINGS – especially important in the first 5km / 30 minutes, if you try to be clever and/or use local knowledge to jump across to runners you see in the distance you will not only miss out on some lovely territory but could end up getting very confused and running round in ever decreasing circle until you disappear up your own bum.

The drink stop is not the main event, please support our local hospitality industry by attending the pub after the run. The Hare may need to adjust our booking according to how many register, so please register ASAP using the above link, we have re-introduced the field on the registration form to indicate whether or not you plan to come to the pub after the run, please use this.

The Hare will be available on the WLH3 runners on trail Whatsapp group from 18:30 to 20:30 to help out the challenged.

Those of you who have not already installed the Zoom app on your device may wish to Install Zoom in advance, not strictly necessary but might save time on the night. Please observe the following points of etiquette for our Zoom circles.
    • Keep your microphone muted until you wish to speak, otherwise the call will be drowned out by a mush of background noise.
    • If an RA is in evidence, please wait until you are called on to respond before unmuting your mic.
    • If you wish to attract the RA’s attention use the ‘raise hand’ button in Zoom to indicate that you want to speak  (similar to placing your glass on your head in the Circle).
    • If you wish to make a particular point of order to the RA, use the chat feature in Zoom.
    • Seek permission from the RA or session administrator before sharing your screen with the group.

This week’s run will start from outside Twickenham station, Map Link . As has become the “new normal” in these dystopian times, there will be no bag drop, run with what you bring and don’t hang around waiting for a pack to form, set off on trail as soon as you turn up, anytime between 18.30 hours and 19.30 hours. There will be a drink stop on trail and if you want to go for a beer after the run, in one of the many local pubs, then make your own arrangements to do so in groups of not more than six. The Hare has hinted that the drink stop might be a lot closer to the Thames than the station and has suggested that pubs in the vicinity of Church street, Twickenham, see this This Map Link, such as The Fox, the The Eel Pie and The Barmy Arms will be conveniently located at the end of the trail, the Hare has also suggested that a torch might be useful, for some sections of the trail.

The Hare is Minge and Tonic

Note: Pre registration is mandatory for all Hashers participating in West London’s runs during the current time. If you plan to come on this run you must register via This Link preferably before lunch time of the day before the run, so the Hare can assess numbers for the drink stop.

  • Run Number 1815 – Thursday 8th October – Southwark (A to B)

    Hare : Stayover

“A” is the exit from Southwark Tube Station Map Link. Anyone not liking the tube can walk to Southwark tube from Waterloo in 3 mins station.

There will not be a bag drop, run with what you bring. Do not wait for the pack to congregate but set off when you turn up, any time between 18.30 and 19.30

    “B” is The Rose pub 123 Snowsfields SE1 3ST Map link . 0207 403 0168 Pub Web Site

The Rose is close to London Bridge station and tube.

At the Rose there are 2 options –

Option 1 – book a table in advance for a group of 6 or less, by phone or on their web site

Option 2 – purchase a pint (or whatever) from whatever is on tap, in a plastic glass as a takeaway and drink it on the street outside the pub. There are a few little booths set within park benches right opposite – which punters utilise for beer drinking purposes. So it’s a nice place to drink outside if wrapped up warm. No mingling beyond 6.

If people prefer to book their group of 6 elsewhere, there is also the Horseshoe Inn Map Link and web site nearby . It is more into track and trace apps and table service etc.

The Rose was the first in the locality to open (using the takeaway concept) after lockdown, so has become a favourite. NB this is not the Rose and Crown. It’s the Rose.

It West London H3 require pre registration for all their runs at this time, so if you are coming you should register using by this link.

Please observe all anti-covid social distancing rules and avoid gathering in groups of more than six throughout the evening.

Keep at least two metres apart from each other and especially from the public when on trail.
Avoid clustering at choke points like checks and bag drops.
Bring a torch because it’s really difficult to run in the dark unless you’re close to someone with light.

STOP PRESS! The Hare has just reported that Hampstead Tube station will close at 7 P.M. There will therefore be a supplementary trail from Hampstead Heath overground. The bag drop will be about quarter of a mile from both stations. Hampstead Heath is probably more convenient from those coming from the direction of Richmond as both are on the Silverlink Line. • Run 1799, The Anchor, Clapham, 20th February 2020

This weeks hash was a live hare trail, courtesy of Stevie Blunder. Unfortunately your scribe was not able to attend this event and therefore had to resort to collecting anecdotal reports from those who did attend at the following week’s hash. It is fair to say that the live hare trail received mixed reviews. Many were of the view that it is a great concept that adds variety to our hashing experience, and anyone who could not manage the 5 blobs and you’re on rule was probably a bit dim. Others were of the opinion that the route with its plethora of false trails was confusing and difficult to navigate. The hare was kind enough to provide a trial map which I reproduce below. I leave it to each of you to draw your own conclusions.

Unfortunately the nature of the trail was not the only issue on the night. Once back in the Anchor, the hashers discovered that the pub did not serve anything resembling what they might reasonably expect in terms of drinkable cask ales. Again, not being present myself, I can only speculate as to whether this was due to bad beer management on the part of the landlord, or poor reconnaissance on the part of the hare. Either way, I think it fair to say that WLH is unlikely to be using this pub again in for the foreseeable future.

If anyone has any photos of this event, please feel free to email to wlhashflash@gmail.com for inclusion in this post.

  • Run 1798, St Margarets Tavern, St Margarets, 13th February 2020

Hare for the evening was Stonker, who I understand is more commonly to be found on the Barnes Hash (which as we all know hashes everywhere around London except Barnes). In spite of this potential handicap, he laid a not-at-all-bad trail around the posh St Margarets area of Twickenham, taking in the renowned Tescos, and the less well known Twickenham rugby stadium, all whilst being within sniffing distance of the delightful Mogden Lane sewage works. Good marks to Stonker for perfect length (7.5 km), clear markings, and plenty of SCB short cuts.

Unencumbered by a drink stop the pack returned to St Margarets tavern to a surprisingly good selection of rugby themed beers. The pub also supplied copious amounts of free beer for the circle, with some left over for general quaffing afterwards, so thanks for that.

The circle was initially convened by RA Whacker, who had to cajole several reluctant hashers from the warmth of the tavern to the chilly outdoors of St Margarets. Our hare, Stonker, was congratulated on setting an OK trail, although of course, as with all WLH endeavours, it was deemed to be a ‘S-H-I-T-T-Y trail’. After dishing out the usual round of down-downs Whacker handed over to our new RA-in-training, Casting Slouch, who proceed to imprint her own style on managing the circle. I think we can all agree that she made a very good job of it, so hopefully we will see more of her at future hashes (so to speak).

  • Run 1797, The Triple Crown, Richmond, 6th February2020

Our hash on Thursday night did not get off to an auspicious start. Five minutes into the trail, after a series of apparently random arrows and checks (see map below) the pack found itself looping back to the Triple Crown, our startling pub! Hooray, thought some of us, the prize for the shortest trail ever goes to hare Generator. Now time for some serious drinking! But it was not to be. A chalked On-On outside the pub indicated that the trail continued into the wilds of Richmond. To be fair, from that point onward, the trail was quite well (if somewhat eccentrically) marked and most of us managed to navigate round a scenic route, encompassing the Old Deer Park, Thames towpath, and Orleans Park to end up at a riverside drink stop.

At the drink stop, in addition to a warming glass of port, the hare served up some very tasty Stilton tart and chocolate truffle cake, both of which were were well received . Then back to the Triple Crown where we were welcomed by a totally bonkers, but very friendly, landlord, who was clearly very pleased to have the extra custom on what would otherwise have been a very quiet weekday evening. RA duties were ably performed by Whacker, and down-downs duly dispensed. One lucky returnee hasher was delighted to be invited to drink his down-down from his, until then, pristine new running shoes. Apparently it didn’t taste too bad. Social drinking continued into the night and the landlord was persuaded to put on another barrel of beer, so a good outcome all round I would say.
