  • Run 1728, The Dartmouth Castle, Hammersmith, 25th October 2018

Sir Humpalot must like Hammersmith a lot.  This was the second trail in the same locality in the space of two days, following on from his City Hash trail earlier in the week.  Fortunately he kept the two trails totally separate so there was no danger of confusion, unless you happened to arrive at the pub after the pack had already departed, in which case (KC?) taking the wrong trail was certainly an option.

Anyway, an enjoyable enough jaunt around the suburbs of Hammersmith, Shepherds Bush,  Holland Park, and Olympia, managing somehow to avoid most of the nearby green spaces, but taking in just about all the cobbled mews that exist in that part of the world.  At the end of the trail, may of us would have subscribed the the view that no mews is good mews.

Our RA for the evening, KMA, presided over the usual rag bag of charges and banter, and a good time was had by all.

  • Run 1727, The Cross Keys, Chiswick, 18th October 2018

Startling from the charming Cross Keys, last nights trail around Chiswick was set by Lay Me, possibly with some assistance from Called Away.   It could be described as a trail of two halves.  The first part was marked out in copious chalk arrows with a smattering of checks, which were quickly broken by the Chiswick savvy FRBs, resulting in a fairly fast paced run.  The second half seemed to suffer from a chalk shortage, with sporadic markings leading apparently nowhere. Anyway, it certainly fooled me and quite a few other more experienced hashers to the extent that there was quite a few of us in the bar by the time the main body of the pack arrived back from the drink stop, which we had of course missed.

Thankfully, nothing that could not be resolved by a few down downs and a good supply of Fullers beer.

  • Run 1723, The Adelaide, Teddington, 20th September 2018

Trail laid around scenic Bushy Park, by hare Dunny Penny, possibly assisted by Rent Boy?

It include a cunning false trail at which the FT sign had been obliterated by hungry deer or dogs, leaving the pack to wander around aimlessly for 10 minutes or so.  Also some interesting jinks in the trail due to the need for the hare to avoid rutting stags.

The drink stop did involve getting wet feet, but on the whole, it was much appreciated, even if the on-inn trail was somewhat lengthy.

  • Run 1722, The Ram Brewery, Wandsworth, 13th September 2018

A joint Humpalot – No Foreplay production, tonight’s trail took a particularly large pack of hashers from the historic Ram Brewery around some of the sights of Wandsworth.

I’m sure the large turnout had nothing whatsoever to do with the provision of copious quantities of specially brewed Hasher’s beer and a mountain of pizza, all for the paltry sum of £7.00.  But well done to Sir Hump and Foreplay for a very well organised event.  We even got a brief history of the Ram Brewery from the brewmeister himself.  Amazingly there was actually un-drunk beer and uneaten pizza left over when everyone was turfed out at 11pm.

    A great night out indeed!

  • Run 1721, Duffy’s, Northfields, 6th September 2018

This was Pope’s traditional birthday run around the Boston Manor area, with a few more interesting loops thrown in for good measure, thanks to his co-hare.  I may have inadvertently short-cutted somewhere as my trail only came to 7km whereas Pope assured us that the one he had set was precisely 8km.

Traditional drink stop in Pope’s back garden, with birthday cake kindly provided by Mrs Pope.

Usual down downs back at Duffys, overseen by RA Whacker.

  • Run 1719, The Greenwood, Northolt, 23rd August 2018

A fine trail was set around the Sudbury Hill / Notholt  area, by our hare,  Yorky Porky, with a drink stop thrown in for good measure in the hare’s front porch.

The only drawback with the Greenwood pub is that it is over a mile from the nearest tube stations, so that many hashers have lost the will to live by the time they actually get to the starting point.   Normally the compensation is that , as a Wetherspoons pub, the Greenwood would have a large selection of beers at less than £2.50 a pint.  This may have been the case initially, but by the end of the evening we had drained most of the beer offerings and the landlord was serving up ‘new’ casks of truly disgusting beer that was well past its sell-by date.

The situation was redeemed somewhat by the tasty and good value curries on offer that night.

  • Run 1718 – the George and Dragon, Thames Ditton, 16th August 2018

Our hare for the day was Pickled Fart, who had gallantly taken over the diary slot from Air Head.

As one would expect from a veteran hare, a well laid trail around the paths and woodlands of Thames Ditton .  At 6.5km not too long either, which nobody complained about.

Usual banter in the circle including down-downs for our three visitors, whose names I’m afraid I forget.

  • Run 1717 – The Kings Arms, Ealing, 9th August 2018

One has to feel sorry for our hare, Optimist.  After a morning of steady rain, the sky sort of clears and he sets a fine trail around the leafy suburb of Ealing, only for it to piss down again at 6pm and wash away all his good work.  So off he has to go all over again, relaying the trail. You would almost think that the RA had it in for him.

Come hash on on time, and we have perfect cool conditions for a change and a well laid trail.

From a personal perspective, good to be back in Ealing again, although a senior moment strikes and I forget where Ealing Green (and the drink stop) is situated. Doh!  Talking of drink stops, we were treated to a refreshing glass of cannabis cordial courtesy of Kenny.  After that, my memory of events become rather cloudy.  Usual down downs for the hare, visitor Half Finger (I think?), and Man Magnet for the design of the new West London shirt. (See photos for samples modelled by various hunky hashers).

  • Run 1714 – The Globe Brentford, 19th July 2018

AGPU run hared by outgoing GM Wacker, around Brentford and Ealing.

Good drink stop, as is usual from Wacker.

A large turnout, no doubt due to the promise of hash food.  And it has to be said that the Globe did serve up an excellent curry, which seemed to disappear rather quickly, as did the chips.

Down downs for the outgoing GM who somehow managed to convince Butt Plug to take over the job.  Similarly to Bhopal as outgoing hare raiser and his replacement, Called Away.  Thanks to both for doing a great job for many years, and good luck to their replacements!

Down downs also to the rest of the committee who remain largely unchanged having failed to find some mug to take over their respective roles.

  • Run 1709 – The Windermere, South Kenton, 14th June 2018

Somehow Wacker manages to mix up the ingredients to give each trail from South Kenton its own distinct flavour.  A reasonable crowd of about 20 hashers at the start swelled to at least double that number by the time we got back to the pub. Many no doubt tempted by the pub food provided, as usual, by the kind people at the Windermere, but frustrated by the lengthy delays on the trains heading West from the centre of town, due apparently to some inconsiderate b****** dying on the train. Special mention also to Wacker’s drink stop with loads of Brewdog beer and Smarties!

  • Run 1707 – The Royal Oak, Vauxhaul, 31st May 2018

A pleasant evening outing on both sides of the Thames, in and around Vauxhaul, as hared by Boy Blunder.

  • Run 1703 – The Green Man, Hatton Cross, 3rd May 2018

An epic trail hared by Rambo.  Two hours and 10k+ slog across fields, along muddy paths, and including not one, but two, river crossings.  A masterpiece in the art of trail setting.

I think Rambo was forgiven for the length of the run thanks to the scenic off-road terrain, and his efforts in opening up a neglected part of West London to the delights of the hash.

  • Run 1700 – The Dartford Arms, Tufnell Park, 12th April 2018

    Run 1700, yeah!!

Hare was Castrato.  A nice off-road trail around Hampstead Heath, even if the hare himself forgot the correct route on at least one occasion.  Still very muddy from the recent rains, but amazingly, and to the disbelief of the RA, no one fell over.  So Pope got a down-down anyway, and quite right too.

    Hampstead Heath trail

  • Run 1699 – The Adelaide Teddington, 5th April 2018

A reasonably large turnout today, no doubt in part due to the first decent Thursday night weather for quite a while. And also the prospect of a glorious run around Bushy Park, expertly hared by your scribe (New Balls Please).

    Bushy Park trail

Amazingly, the drink stop supplies were still in their secret cache by the time the front runners got to the DS site.  Less fortunately, they were discovered by some enterprising hasher and by the time the hare arrived most of the drink had been snarfed. Oh well.

Usual down-downs followed back a the pub.  Can’t remember much else.
